BEAR Facts of Engineering

Join the Mission

BFOE is built with its readers, not just for them. Some of the ideas in these books started as a question from a child or a note from a teacher. Join free and follow the series, or step inside The BFOE Den, the workshop behind every book, and help build it.

The Workshop Programme

By application. Places are limited.

The Workshop Programme is not a subscription and is not for sale. It is a working role: a small, capped group of families and teachers who help steer what BFOE builds next, from reading beta manuscripts to shaping resources, names and ideas before the world sees them.

Application only

Free to apply. Membership is earned, not bought.

Apply to join

  • Read beta manuscripts before publication and give structured feedback
  • Help shape resources, titles and ideas at the development stage
  • Occasional invitations to appear on the @BFOEWorkshop channel to talk about the work
  • Named kudos as part of the group steering BFOE outputs
  • A real commitment: read within the window, complete the feedback cycle

Worth being clear: the Workshop Programme does not include Den materials. Companion packs, classroom packs, meetings and the vault all live in the Den memberships above. The Programme is about helping make the things, not receiving them.

A powerful STEM adventure that shows young readers what engineering really means when the world is unpredictable… teamwork, responsibility, and the courage to act with incomplete information.”

An artfully created story reflecting realistic and practical challenges… From start to finish, the reader is immersed in this journey. The importance of the engineering profession is woven subtly through the book. I believe that this book can reach audiences of most if not all ages.”

Things worth noting

What's the difference between the Parent and Teacher memberships?

The Parent membership is the workshop behind the books for one household: companion packs, guided builds, printables, early access, the Kitchen Table meetings and the member discount. The Teacher membership includes all of that, plus full classroom packs per chapter and subject, curriculum alignment for seven systems, TEDDIES framework materials, the Staffroom meetings and the termly class-visit draw. If you're both a parent and a teacher, the Teacher membership covers everything.

What stays free forever?

The BFOE Glossary, the Reading Companion, the BEAR Engineering Challenge in every book's back matter, the Chapter 1 read-together guides, and the teacher evaluation sets. The free tier is how you check we're worth it before you spend anything, so it will never be hollowed out.

How does billing work, and can I cancel?

Payments and subscriptions are handled by Whop, our merchant platform. You can cancel anytime from your account and keep access until the end of the period you've paid for. The full terms are in the Terms of Subscription linked below.

Do you collect anything from children?

No. All accounts, memberships and meetings are for adults: parents, guardians and educators. We don't offer child logins and we don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Project photos in the community gallery show what was built, never who built it, and are submitted by a parent or guardian with their consent.

Will my price go up?

Join now and your price is locked for as long as your membership stays active. Early members are the reason this exists, and the pricing will always remember that.

We're a school. Can we buy several Teacher memberships?

You can, but the Organisations licence is usually the better shape: one licence, every teacher covered, one renewal date, invoicing and purchase orders welcome, plus class-set discounts and a staff orientation session. Use the Enquire button above and tell us about your setting.

What exactly is the Workshop Programme?

A small, capped group of families and teachers who help make BFOE: reading beta manuscripts, giving structured feedback, and shaping resources and ideas before release. It's by application, it's free, and it isn't a subscription: Den materials are not included. It's a role for people who want to help build the thing, with the kudos that comes with that.

What happens to the meetings if I can't attend live?

Every Kitchen Table and Staffroom session is recorded and added to the members' replay vault, so the library grows every month and time zones are never a reason to miss out.
