Fault
A crack in the Earth's crust where large pieces of rock have moved past each other. Most earthquakes happen along faults. Some faults are tiny; some run for thousands of kilometres.
Fault Line
The line you can sometimes see on the ground where a fault is — the boundary between two pieces of crust that can move against each other. Some fault lines show as cracks or cliffs; others run hidden underground.
